Wax Ribbons are the most popular (and least priced) suited for uncoated or matte coated labels.

Wax ribbons are less long-lasting than other ribbons, but they are also less expensive. They produce an image that is more resistant to fading than Direct Thermal labels, but it is still vulnerable to scratches and smudging. In comparison to wax-resin or resin, wax ribbons have a lower chemical resistance.

Wax ribbons are utilized in a variety of applications that require short-term or mild durability, such as shipping labels, retail labeling, storage locations, signs, and more. They are the most popular, accounting for over 70% of all thermal transfer ribbon sales.
